Sustainability

The nature around us, mountains, forests, lakes – they are a gift that we want to protect. For us, sustainability means using resources consciously, strengthening regional cycles, and creating a healthy environment for employees and guests.

As a member of Swiss Family Hotels, Responsible Hotels of Switzerland, and a partner of Swisstainable, we are actively committed to a sustainable future. We are doing our part with many small and large measures – and together with you, we can do even more.

 

Regionality

For us, regionality is a way of life. Many of the products in our kitchen come directly from producers in Graubünden. In this way, we support local agriculture, shorten transport routes, and create moments of genuine enjoyment. We also rely on regional partners for construction, crafts, energy, and services.

Partnerships

Valbella Resort supports important organizations. We maintain personal partnerships with them. We are proud members of the following associations: Swisstainable, Responsible Hotels of Switzerland, and Swiss Family Hotels.

Energy

We continuously invest in sustainable energy and reduce our heating oil consumption by tens of thousands of liters every year thanks to photovoltaics and heat pumps. Our systems generate around 300,000 kWh of electricity and reduce heating oil consumption by 65%. Guests with electric cars can use our own charging stations in the parking garage.

Water

Water is the basis of all life, and we take its conscious use for granted. By selling our spring water, we support Ernst Bromeis's “Das blaue Wunder” (The Blue Miracle) project. This means that part of the proceeds goes toward sustainable water projects. Our water consumption is also monitored digitally.

Trash and Food Waste

Our kitchen deliberately portions food and asks for a supplement if necessary. This allows us to avoid food waste without compromising on enjoyment. Food waste and scraps are converted into biogas or composted, for a sustainable energy cycle.

Products and materials

In our rooms, we focus on environmentally friendly and well-thought-out solutions: we deliberately avoid disposable slippers, use toilet paper made from 100% recycled cardboard, and provide refillable dispensers for toiletries. This allows us to avoid unnecessary waste and conserve valuable resources.

Packaging and Purchasing

Our breakfast buffet is largely unpackaged, the coffee capsules are compostable, and we focus on regional, seasonal products—whenever possible in environmentally friendly bulk containers.

Social Sustainability

For us, sustainability also means social responsibility. Our employees are the heart of the resort—they find not only a job with us, but also a home in the mountains. We promote further training, offer coaching and language courses, and ensure fair conditions. We also support regional social projects, thereby strengthening the local community.

Sustainability works best when we all do our bit. Even small decisions during your stay can help protect our mountains and resources:
• Only have towels and bed linen changed when necessary
• Choose the room temperature carefully
• Use a water carafe instead of bottles
• Bring your own slippers
• Travel by public transport
